It’s been a while… and I’m so excited to be back!
I’ll be honest, it’s been a LONG time since I last blogged. It feels a little strange to be writing again, but at the same time, it’s SO exciting to reconnect with you all in this way!
For those of you who don’t know me yet, I’ve been shooting weddings for over 15 years. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for the career I’ve built as a photographer. It has taken me to so many beautiful places and introduced me to so many amazing couples.
When I first got into photography, I was newly married, and I needed a creative outlet while my husband was getting ready to deploy. I started blogging weddings I assisted on, and I took photos of anything I could find to practice my craft. That journey eventually led to me shooting my own weddings, and—believe it or not—having my work featured in magazines and online publications.
The Shift to Full-Time Photography
When I found out I was pregnant with my first child in 2011, I knew I wanted to leave my full-time job and focus on my photography business. After my son was born in 2012, my husband and I made the decision that I wouldn’t be going back to the 9-to-5 world. I was excited for this new season, but I quickly realized just how challenging it would be.
Adjusting to life as a new mom while balancing a growing business wasn’t easy. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect. I thought I had to do everything—run a business (making sure I was booking enough weddings), manage emails, handle finances, blog, care for my baby, practice self-care, stay present in my marriage, cook, clean, do laundry… The list goes on!
Finding Balance and Embracing New Seasons
As things got busier with my growing family, I knew I needed to make some adjustments. When I found out I was pregnant with my second baby, my daughter, I decided to shift my focus. Instead of booking weddings on my own, I decided to try working as an associate photographer and second shooter. That’s when I had the opportunity to work with The Scobeys as their associate photographer for about a year.
Then, as life would have it, The Scobeys moved to Colorado, and I found out I was expecting my third baby. With three kids under the age of four, I made the decision to take some time off from photography to focus on my family. I’m so thankful for a career that has allowed me to be flexible, but it wasn’t an easy decision. I had worked so hard to build my business, and then, just like that, I was stepping away for a season. But I truly felt that this was what God was calling me to do. And I’ve learned that just because you’re called to something doesn’t mean everything will be smooth sailing.
The Beauty of Life’s Unexpected Turns
Life has a way of throwing curveballs, doesn’t it? Things don’t always go according to plan. But I’ve come to realize that it’s in those unexpected moments that we have the choice to either let them tear us apart—or let them build us up. That’s part of the beauty of life’s journey. Even when things don’t go as I hoped, I try to embrace the process, the lessons, and the growth.
This blog is a reminder that even in the messy moments, there is so much beauty in the journey. Whether things are going your way or not, the journey itself is what makes life so rich. And I hope you’ll join me as I explore and navigate this journey with you. I can’t wait to see you here!
